Doctor’s Notes: Playtest #E.3 – 23rd May

4 years ago by Bossa Poppy

From 7pm (BST) / 8pm (CEST) / 2pm (EDT) / 11am (PDT) on Saturday, the doors to the surgery will be open to welcome in a new batch of Surgeon 2 playtesters. As the game is now always-on (read more about that here), everyone joining this weekend will be able to continue enjoying Surgeon 2 for the foreseeable!

Playtests signify a time when new people can register to access the game, and they also mark new updates in Surgeon 2. The team at Bossa has been working incredibly hard on this update, so it’s safe to say I’m absolutely ecstatic to announce it!

Here’s what you can expect from Saturday onward:

Brand new characters!

The squad has arrived. By now, everyone is familiar with Milo: he’s the character you’ve been default playing with since the closed alpha began. Not everyone identifies with Milo and his eccentric look, though, so we thought we ought to give him some friends.

Introducing the latest additions to the surgery! From left to right: Milo, Heather, Kamal, and Penny.

You’ll now be able to play as (and swap between!) a choice of four characters. Psst: it’s okay to have a favourite. Mine’s Penny…

Cosmetics & customisation options

What’re new characters without new cosmetics and customisation options? Now, you’ll be rewarded by completing levels and challenges in-game.

By working through the levels in the Story Mode (that’s the set of pre-made levels created by Bossa), you’ll be able to unlock different cosmetics and customisation options that mean you can style your character how you like. Think hats, different scrubs, and this cute critter:

New (structured) levels!

We’ve uploaded a bunch of new Bossa-created levels! These shiny new levels are now playable via our new Story Mode select UI. Some levels will need to be unlocked by playing through the available levels sequentially, so keep an eye out. Completing certain levels might lead to certain rewards…

Music to our ears…

What’s that you hear? New music? We’ve been working with self-proclaimed ‘master of time’ Grandmaster Gareth to curate an eccentric soundtrack to enhance your surgery experience. With this new update, you’ll get to hear a few of the tracks that have especially been composed for Surgeon 2

Level validation process

To make sure all submitted levels created in the Bossa Labs Creation Mode are playable, we’ve introduced a validation process for levels. When you publish a new level, it will enter the validation stage, which will require a few points to tick off before it goes public. You can read about the validation process here.

More props!

We see you out there, using the Bossa Labs Creation Mode to make those amazing levels! To help make your level-dreams a reality, we’ve added more props to the catalog.

You’ll find medical set decorations, an item shredder, different customisable colours on controllers and doors, and, most importantly: bongos!

Important caveat

For this playtest, we won’t have matchmaking set-up for Story Mode levels. If you want to play the 10 multiplayer levels available, you’ll need to already be in teams, instead of relying on being randomly assigned.

You can create parties with friends via the ESC menu. We recommend finding teams and exchanging Epic usernames in the #playtest-chat channel on the Discord server prior to the playtest to avoid disappointment.

The community is a friendly bunch, so we’re sure you’ll have a blast and make some new friends along the way!

Final word

Everyone at Bossa is super excited about this new update to Surgeon 2, and we hope you enjoy it. We can’t wait to see how the new props are incorporated into your levels, and which characters you all like the most.

As always, if you capture any good clips or spot any bugs, make sure to send your videos to the Dropbox here

See you later, operator!
